okaay this is a really christianish post, bear with me.

just came back frm a missions conference at suntec. initially feared it'd be a small thing where ppl wld get too interactive, over friendly but whoa total opposite. packed full like shinjuku station during peak hours. ok damn i miss tokyo. so the usual hillsongish worship session which rocked in many senses, but what i took home was the superb message by the speaker.

Genesis 47

gist of it was about submitting to God's plans. shared story of joseph, how he was chosen by God starting with his dream. the joseph and the amazing technicolour dreamcoat musical story! ok basically ppl know more abt that story of Joseph being a godly man, being morally upright despite being seduced by potiphar's wife etc. whats less known that despite a good start, joseph eventually sinned and unlike most godly men in the bible, had a bad ending to his story!

basically aft lotsa events, joseph became Pharoah's (egyptian king) right hand man. up till now joseph had been good servant of God. but became blinded by wordly views at this point of power he had. convinced the egyptians to give up all their possesions to pharoah, eventually having nth left. promised them to give back a certain percentage after redistribution among the ctry. (think Marxism) this was a time of famine thus joseph's plan, inherently good, was aimed to alleviate this prob.

however along the lines of great empires and the contemporary knowledge of what great empires entailed then, or how a kingdom's wealth was measured, was solely that of how rich its leaders were. in this case, the richer pharoah was, the greater egypt was! as joseph accumulated more land/treasures from his people to present to pharoah, he stumbled along the way. the more he got, the more he demanded frm the egyptians towards building up greater wealth of the kingdom. worse still, he enslaved them to pharoah by making them sell all their land to him in exchange for food, which they did so due to severity of famine by then.

and thus forgetting what his main purpose for doing so was-to help his people out of poverty. so what he did was to inadvertently lead to the generations of egyptians and ultimately (long story), israelites, becoming enslaved under the egyptian kingdom. which is of course one of the greatest disasters in the bible!

all this was related cos the pastor warned about blocking out God's plan for us. two choices-obey and submit to 'God's dream' purpose for us, or reject and follow instead what eventually turns out the opposite, 'satan's nightmare'. as in not satan's nightmare from the devil's viewpoint la cos obviously thats what satan desires! but a nightmare frm a godly perspective as the consequences of choosing the alternative path instead of God's intended path for us. abit confusing la the direct opposite or antonym. whatever. and the sermon not only applies solely to missions (evangelistic outreach) per se, but for God's purpose for our lives as a whole, and whether we choose to obey as He instructs.

i apologise if there're any factual errors in this post, pls tell me if there is. go read up and see if i said rubbish, cos twisting God's word's sacrilegious haha. i know few ppl're actually gonna read this. but i thought even if one does do so, that'd be great already. and of course also to encourage other christians out there in one way or another i hope, cos we all do get abit jaded every now and then (:
